Five Guys Dine to Donate is Back!

On Wednesday October 17, 2018 we will be having our next Dine to Donate Event at Five Guys Burgers and Fries on Gardiners Road. From 5:00 – 8:30pm, $1 from every burger, poutine and milkshake sold will come back to the league. This is a fantastic partnership with Tommy Doyle and the Five Guys staff locally and fully supported by the corporate group from Five Guys. Tell your friends and neighbours about this great way to support our program AND have some great food too.

Shooting Skills Clinics

With the completion of evaluation week, our focus now shifts to the shooting skills clinics for our players. Next week we will have shooting skills clinics for players in all divisions, following the schedule given out at registration, and reprinted below. We are very fortunate to have players and coaches from the St. Lawrence College men’s and women’s programs, and the Queen’s women’s program coming to run those clinics for our players. This is a great opportunity to learn shooting fundamentals as well as tips for you to use when shooting on your own. Our thanks to Barry Smith, Kevin Smart, Remy Simpson, Kevin Biggs and Dave Wilson for agreeing to help us out. Stage End Padding at Ecole Cathedrale

When our Graduate Division players arrive for evaluations next Monday night they will be greeted by new padding at the stage end of the gym that was purchased by the league to improve player safety. The mats arrived and were installed yesterday, with the school crest and our logo printed on them to show the partnership that continues to exist between the school board and the league.

Queen’s University Study

We have been approached by Queen’s University to work with them on a graduate student study. This year Alex Murata will be wanting to talk to parents on game nights, and possibly registration morning, to help him with his research. Here is the description:
“An inquiry into the values and philosophy of families participating in recreational sport”
The Performance Lab for the Advancement of Youth Sport (PLAYS) at Queen’s University is looking to sit down with the families of players participating in the Pete Petersen Basketball League for the upcoming 2018-2019 season! It is hoped that these conversations will allow both researchers and league organizers to better understand the motivation behind enrolling children in basketball as well as in recreational sport generally. The feedback and comments received will be used to help the Pete Petersen Basketball League to continue to provide quality recreation to Kingston youth and also aid in the creation of more player-centered sport programming in the future!”

We hope that you as parents and families will welcome Alex to the basketball league family. Along with his research, Alex will be joining us as a coach in the Graduate Division.

Thank You David Reid and John McGaw

After each coaching more than 25 years in the Biddy Division, Dave Reid and John McGaw have decided to retire this year from their work on the benches with the children in our league. Dave spent his entire time with us in the Biddy Division, while John also coached in the Little Gals and Girls Divisions for a number of years. We want to thank both of them for their commitment to the league and especially their commitment to the children of our community. They will be missed Monday nights.

Registration 2018

With just 5 sleeps left before registration day 2018 on Saturday September 8, we thought that it would be appropriate to share the map showing which door we will be using to enter the school for registration. The door will be marked with a poster and there will be others on windows directing you around the school to the right door. See you then!
