The Five Guys Results are in and YOU Set a New Record!

Last night we received the results from Five Guys for our event Wednesday October 15, and the previous record was not only broken, it was shattered!! Our previous high was $569 raised. Here is the breakdown from Wednesday:

Burgers 450
Poutine 56
Milkshakes 177
TOTAL $683

We also received $120 in cash donations at the event, bringing our Wednesday total to $803!
Our thanks again to the staff and leadership at Five Guys on Gardiners Road and at the corporate offices, and to all of you that came out to enjoy the great food, the camaraderie that IS the league family, and deciding to make a difference in the lives of our players.
Our thanks to Pat Adams for being the good will ambassador and photographer for the event this year. Here are some memories from Wednesday.

Player Behaviour

Recently there has been an increase in unsportsmanlike behaviour by players both on and off the court. It is unfortunate that these incidents happen, but we wanted to remind everyone that these behaviours have no place in the game of basketball, and certainly have no place in our league and the family atmosphere we are trying to maintain on game nights.

We expect games to be competitive, but we also need players and parents to keep the game in perspective. It is, and always should be, a game, and especially a place, where you can enjoy the competition and after the game, shake hands and get ready to play again next week

Many of the posters that are on display at the banquet are meant to be reminders of what our league motto of “Basketball Just For the Fun of It” really means. For example, some of those reminders that we all should take to heart are: “Uniform colours don’t matter. Friendships matter. “; “We grow friendships for life”; “Smiles and friendships for a lifetime.”; “Teamates for a season, friends for a lifetime.”

I must be clear. We have a code of conduct for parents that we have published before and we will publish again. For players and friends, attending games is a privilege and not a right. If you are a player watching friends play you are held to the same standard as adults. If you use profanity, if you disrespectfully address another spectator, or if you engage in any other behaviour we deem inappropriate you will be asked to leave, and you may be in jeopardy of having the privilege of participating as a player and spectator withdrawn.

If you are a player engaging in unsportsmanlike behaviour during a game you will be penalized within the rules of the game. Repeat offenses will result in suspension from playing, and could result in your involvement with our program ending.

As an organization, we rely on the partnership we have built over our 71 years between the parents and caregivers, as well as our volunteers, to continue to make the games enjoyable for both you and for us as the volunteers that make it a reality for you every week. I often refer to the league as a family that we are all a part of. At times there will be issues going forward, but I hope we can continue to work together to resolve those issues as we have in the past to give all of us the chance to enjoy a season of basketball in a safe environment
