League Golf Tournament

On Friday July 3 the first annual Don “Pete” Petersen Golf Tournament to raise money for his league was held at the Inverary Golf and Country Club. 16 teams of golfers enjoyed a day of golf and camaraderie, prizes and a delicious meal. Close to $3000 was raised that will go a long way to deferring our operating costs this season, and will help ensure that we can keep our registration fee at $10 per player for the season.
Our thanks to the staff at Inverary for their support, to the golfers that came out, and to the many individuals and businesses that donated prizes and sponsored holes around the course. A full list of the prize donators and hole sponsors will appear here and on the league Facebook page as soon as it is available.
Special thanks to Rick Hollywood, Heather Hollywood and Erin Finn for their work in organizing the event and procuring prizes. Rick takes the lead on this event each year and we are grateful for his commitment both to this event, and to the basketball league.

Basketball League Announcement

“What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal.” Albert Pike.

The Knights of Columbus Basketball League will be operating under a new name starting this coming season. It will now be known as the “Pete” Petersen Basketball League, in recognition of the league founder Don “Pete” Petersen, who passed away one year ago today. Our belief in the ideals that Pete lived by is still in place with the people running the program, as is our commitment to continuing to give the children of the community a safe place to learn and play the game of basketball. From the first day Pete opened the gym of St. Pat’s School and encouraged the children at the school and the neighbourhood to come in and play basketball, this has been his league. The league is his lasting legacy, and we want to make sure that the next generations of players understand his impact on the basketball community in Kingston. We are all positive about the name change, and look forward to the opportunity this represents. We are excited to have a new group of players grow up in the league that Pete built, playing under his name, and learning how much fun the game can be. We ask that you share this post within your networks. We will make the web site and Facebook page name changeover following registration to minimize the confusion for people seeking information about that day.

This weekend Sarah Barnes joined the executive of the basketball league. Sarah has been a volunteer with us since the 2012-2013 season as a coach and referee.
