REGISTRATION 2017 Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

1) What are the game nights for the upcoming season? Answer: Monday Nights – Biddy at St. Francis of Assisi; Graduate at Ecole Cathedrale; Tuesday Nights- Little Guys at St. Francis of Assisi; Wednesday Nights – Girls Division at St. Francis of Assisi; Thursday Nights- Little Gals Division at St. Francis of Assisi. Graduate games start at 5:30 pm (3 games a night in one hour time slots), and all other divisions start at 6 pm with four games in 45 minute time slots.

2) I am going to be out of town on September 9 and you have no on line registration. How do I get my child registered?
Answer: If you are going to be away September 9 you can get someone else to start the registration process for you. They will need the name, date of birth, contact phone numbers, address and e mail address (if applicable) for your player, along with the $10 registration fee. They will be given a copy of the registration form that you will need to sign and bring with you to the player evaluation night. We must have a signed registration form before your child can participate in league activities. PLEASE DO NOT ASK MEMBERS OF OUR LEAGUE EXECUTIVE TO REGISTER YOUR CHILD FOR YOU. We are very busy on registration day looking after other details of the process.

2 a) Why don’t you have on line registration like other leagues? Answer: Having in person, first come, first served registration equalizes the opportunity for everyone in the community. We allow someone else to register your child as long as you make those arrangements as a concession to those that may need to be unavailable at registration time due to work or other commitments.

3) Can we request to be on the same team as another player?
Answer: Due to the large number of requests we receive each year, and our growing number of registrations, we can no longer assure you that player pairing requests will be granted, with the exception of siblings in the same age group, and where a DEFINITE need to ride together has been established and communicated. It has been overwhelming for our volunteers to accommodate these large number of requests while trying to build fair and balanced teams. We believe that this approach keeps us in line with the practice of most other youth organizations. We see our program as a great opportunity for family members and players to meet new friends and neighbours from across our community, establishing friendships that may last for years to come.

4) Can we request to be on a specific coach’s team?
Answer: No, you may not request a coach. The only exception to this rule is if you are an assistant for that coach.

Cats Basketball Camp at Regi

Please see the note below from Lesley Stevenson regarding the cancellation of the cats Basketball Camp.

“Dear campers and parents/ guardians,

I am sorry to announce that the board is shutting down during the week of the CATS camp (Aug 7-11th) and new rules dictate that I am not able to proceed with camp as planned.

Neither my principal nor my Athletic Director were aware of these dates until three days ago. We tried everything to make it work but new union rules for caretakers have made it impossible.

I am very disappointed as I am sure you are.

I looked at moving the dates, but there are conflicts which make that too challenging. I promise next year this WILL NOT happen!

For those who won a spot through the Pete Peterson league (K of C) I will honour that spot for next year!

Again I am truly sorry. This has never happened before and I will make sure it doesn’t happen again!

Sincerely,

Lesley Stevenson
RND Senior Girls Basketball Coach”

Garry LaVallee

On March 11 Kingston lost a true sportsman when Garry Lavallee passed away. Garry was the “everyman” that you play sports with. Talking to people who played with and against him, he was a good teammate, a strong competitor and, most importantly, he made you laugh. He was a good friend of our league founder Don Petersen, and was also a cherished husband, father and grandfather. At his celebration of life this week, Garry’s family decided that donations in his memory should come to our basketball league, so that the donations could be used to help support youth sports. We are grateful to Garry’s wife Tish for believing in what we do for children in the community, and to Ron Earl and his wife Brenda for looking after the collection at the celebration of Garry’s life. Our sincere sympathy to Garry’s daughters Tracie and Laurie, and to his grandchildren Noah, Lynus, Esmee, Henry and Zachary. Garry will continue to make an impact in the community through this donation and in the memories that those who knew him share together.

Garry LaVallee

Garry LaVallee was a great friend to Don Petersen, the founder of our league, and his grand daughter played in our program. Garry died on March 11 of this year, and a celebration of life is planned for Friday, May 12th, 2017, from 3:00pm – 6:00 pm
at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 560 at 734 Montreal Street.
Garry was an active sportsman during his playing career, and a strong believer in the benefits participation in sports had for children. When we put together the book of memories for Pete, Garry was quick to send us his memories of life growing up with Pete. Our condolences to Garry’s family. Donation details are available through the Simpler Times web site.
