Knights of Columbus Basketball League Week Celebrations Day 3

Wednesday November 5 was day 3 of our week long celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the league. Our special guests to kick off the evening were Mary O’Neill- Howlett and Joanie Besselink-Sagriff, the two people instrumental in getting the Girls Division established in 1982. Given the mandate by Pete to get 20 girls committed to play before a Girls Division would be created, they quickly got that many names, and thirty more. The current players owe a debt of gratitude to these pioneers of our program who did all of that work and only got to play in the new division for one year before they were too old to play. Both have maintained a contact with the league and Mary is responsible for the Player of the Week in both the Little Guys and Little Gals Divisions receiving a Happy Meal Gift Certificate each week for the last two seasons.
Last night also turned out to be a media night as well, with long time supporter, and CKWS Sports Anchor Doug Jeffries  in attendance, along with Ian McAlpine from the Kingston Whig Standard, and David Pietrangelo from Station 14 at the gym. David is doing a feature story about the league for Station 14. Station 14 can be found on the internet by searching station14.ca.
The evening giveaway prizes Wednesday night were sponsored by Bridget Walker-Payne State Farm Insurance, and again last night Tata’s Pizza supplied the Pizza for “Pete’s Best Seat in The House” winners. Mary Brown’s Chicken also supplied vouchers for our half time contest winners on Tuesday, and all week Putt and Blast has been supplying Player of teh Week winners gift cards as well. We appreciate the support of these businesses for their help.
We also want to thank Mary Willing for stepping in as photographer to capture some of the action from last night for your enjoyment.
