Fair Play Rules For Spectators

As we move into practice week with games due to begin October 2, we thought this would be a good time to remind everyone about the Fair Play Rules for Spectators. Our overriding theme is “Basketball Just For The Fun of It” but with a scoreboard sometimes the games can get a little intense for everyone in the gym. That’s okay, but we ask that you remember these rules, that you remember that all of the organizers, coaches, scorers, timers and referees are volunteers committed to making this season a positive experience for all of us. Boys and Girls Club FREE Basketball

We received this message yesterday from Jahmaal Branker with the Boys and Girls Club located at the Frontenac Mall. If you are interested please contact Jahmaal through the link below to register.

“We will be running 2 free Co-Ed Basketball leagues that will run on Thursdays from 6:30pm-8:30pm for those in grades 8-12 starting October 12th until December 7th. As you only have your Little Gals playing on Thursdays, I was hoping that you could reach out to those in your Graduate and Girls division that are old enough about the opportunity to play more basketball for free.

Below is the link to our website where either the parents or youth can make an account to register for one of the 2 leagues. We ask them not to sign up for both as they run simultaneously. https://bgcka.recdesk.com/Community/Program?category=19

Donations Update

On Monday night we received a VERY substantial donation to the league from the Fraser Family. For many years now the family of Terry and Odessa Fraser have made contributions to the league in support of what we do.Part of their donation will be used to refurbish our trophies. Our thanks to Terry, Odessa, Ryan and his family, Dana and her family for continuing to believe in what we do for the children in the community. You are ALL difference makers!

Registration Goodies

We want to thank the volunteers that handed out treats, coffee, hot chocolate, water and juice to the people waiting in line at registration Saturday morning. The early round of coffee and hot chocolate was donated by the DeMatos family and distributed by Luis, Kathleen and Liam. The next round of coffee was donated to us by Mary O’Neill Howlett and McDonald’s on Division Street, and the water, juice, Timbits and Granola bars were donated by Bridget Walker Payne and Bridget Walker Payne Desjardins Insurance and distributed with his usual enthusiasm by Chris Payne Mike Spies, Liam DeMatos, Luis DeMatos, Rick Hollywood and others I’m sure I missed. Contributions like this by supporters and league volunteers make a huge difference in allowing us to keep our registration fee at $10 for the season. THANK YOU!!

Registration update

Yesterday we filled the waiting list in the Little Gals Division so that means we are not taking any more names for this season in any of our five divisions.

Volunteer Power!!

We want to thank the volunteers that took on the task of washing our 500 league uniforms and doing repairs if needed. Susan Billings, Nancy Vivian, Brenda Carscallen and Nora Fayed took on the task again this year and we are grateful for their help to make sure all of the uniforms were washed and line dried. We are often asked how we do what we do with a $10 entry fee. Commitment of volunteers like these is one of those ways.

Donations Update

Recently we received a very generous donation from Doug and Nancy Vivian in memory of Doug’s sister Thora Willard. Doug and Nancy have been staunch supporters of what we do through donations of drinks to support the canteen, repairing uniforms, washing uniforms, designing and building the mat roller system used every night at St. Francis of Assisi, and helping every year at the banquet. We as a league offer our deepest sympathies on your loss, and thank you for choosing to remember Thora in this way. With this donation you are having a direct impact on the lives of the children in the community, and you once again show that you are difference makers

Registration 2023

Yesterday we were lucky enough to have long time volunteer Terry Fraser attend registration and help us out at the Volunteer registration table. Terry’s health in recent years has not allowed him to contribute to the league the way he once did, but he still remains committed to making a difference in the lives of our players. Thank yoi Terry for continuing to be an inspirational figure to so many of us that have been blessed to know you and to call you friend.
