As we continue through practice week and toward the start of the season, we want to remind everyone about the Fair Play Rules for Spectators attending games.
We have two significant donations to update you on. The first came last week from Lindsay O’Donnell, a former player and currently a parent in the league family, and the second was from Ken Gee and the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario Limestone Occasional Teachers Local, with a note thanking us for our great work. To both Lindsay and Ken, thank you for your support and belief in what we do for the children in our community. You both are difference makers in our community with these donations, and the group that Ken represents make a difference in the lives of children all over our community EVERY day.
Last night we had our coaches meeting to kick off the 2024-25, 70th Anniversary Season of the league that Don Petersen built. Below is the practice schedule for the teams As we have said before, all of our coaches are volunteers so be patient if you do not hear right away what team your player is on. For all divisions but Graduate, please contact me if you do not hear what team your player is on by Sunday.

As we get ready to begin play for our 70th season of operation, I want to make a plea to the league families. PLEASE mark the name of your player or a phone number on the water bottles that they will be brining to games. Every season we have an endless chase to find the owners of abandoned bottles in order to reunite the bottles with their owners.
In the past week we have received three significant donations in support of what we do for children in the community.
The first was from the Fraser family and the note with the donation said in part “Our son, daughter, and now grandchildren have had the opportunity to join in the fun of playing basketball in the league. They all have experienced the fun and camaraderie during their involvement, and the feeling of being welcomed and belonging. We know first hand the importance of what you and the volunteers do! You are difference makers in the lives of the children involved in the league.”
The second donation was from Brad Horton at Exclusive Cooling Limited. Brad had heard about what we do, and, like the Fraser family, wanted to help make a difference in the lives of the children in the community. Exclusive Cooling is a first time donator and we are very happy to welcome them into the league family.
The third very generous donation was from Doug and Nancy Vivian. Like the Fraser family, they have had a son, and grandchildren play in the league and their son Ryan and granddaughters have also coached. For MANY years they have supported the canteen and the banquet with donations of drinks and they want to continue ie that tradition with this donation.
We are often asked “How can you do what you do for only $10?” The answer is our partnership with the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board, and the generosity of both the business community and league families that want to support us. Our thanks to the Frasers, the Vivians, and to Brad Horton at Exclusive Cooling. Thank you for believing in what we do for the children in our community. You are truly difference makers in the lives of our players and their families!
Our first fund raising event of the season is on WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 16 at Five Guys on Gardiners Road. This is a chance to move past the Thanksgiving turkey leftovers and dig in to some delicious burgers. For many years we have enjoyed a great partnership with the Five Guys organization and the amazing staff at the Gardiners Road location – and they enjoy hosting our league families.
From 5 pm until 8:30 pm on October 16th, $1 from every burger, poutine and milkshake sold will come back to the league.
This is a great opportunity to “Dine and Make a Difference” in the lives of our players. Tell your friends, your co-workers, your neighbours, and your neighbours friends! More reminders will be coming of course in the weeks ahead, but we wanted to make sure you mark your calendars.
This week we will be having player evaluation practices in all divisions. It is important to make these sessions if at all possible so that we can create balanced teams. Please remember, these are not try outs. If you are registered you will be put on a team – no one is cut. ALL SESSIONS ARE AT ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI CATHOLIC SCHOOL.
