Jewellery Update

We have had several inquiries about wearing jewellery, specifically earrings, and if it is okay to tape over them so that the player can participate. We have been clear in our position on this, and have published the deadlines for piercings that will allow a player to participate.
Let me repeat that now. Players cannot participate while wearing jewellery. This is a basketball rule, and NOT a Pete Petersen Basketball League Rule. Published literature that we have researched states that a person with a fresh piercing must wait six to eight weeks before it can be removed. Players will not be allowed to participate until any piercing can be safely removed by the adult in charge of the child. We will not do that for you.
We are publishing below the basketball rules, both NFHS and FIBA , that specifically cover this topic.

Jewellery Rules

National Federation of High School Sports (NFHS) Basketball Rules Section 5 Article 7

“ART. 7. Jewelry is prohibited. Religious and medical-alert medals are not
considered jewelry. A religious medal shall be taped and worn under the uniform.
A medical-alert medal shall be taped and may be visible.”
