What better day than Thanksgiving Day to pause and thank the many volunteers that make our league possible. Without their commitment to the community week after week we would not be able to offer the program that we do. Coaches, scorekeepers, referees, canteen helpers, the t-shirt sales team, the executive members and the parents that take the time at the end of the night to put away the chairs are all unpaid volunteers, and the league could not operate without that help.
This season four players deserve a special acknowledgement for their help as referees. Colin Bowman is refereeing in the Biddy Division, Braiden Clarke and Jacob Lawson in the Little Guys Division, and Miles Brackenbury in the Little Gals Division. All four are working with our regular referee volunteers to learn how to officiate, and all four are making a difference for us.
Last week Kelly Dixon and Alec Murray, coaches at Holy Cross Secondary School, donated two leather basketballs to our league. This continues the support that Alec and Kelly have given to us over the years.
Last week John Potter donated a pair of Kingston Frontenacs tickets for the Sneaker Draw, something that he has willingly done every year for the past several years.
Also last week, former player and current member of the Queen’s University Basketball team, Greg Faulkner, donated four prizes for the Sneaker Draw. This continues the support that Greg has given us every year since he stopped being an active player in our program.
Currently a former player, Jeff Thurlby from Printfusion is making a banner celebrating our 60th Anniversary that will hang across Princess Street later this month. Jeff has helped us with the design work, and his team at Printfusion is making the banner to the specifications supplied by the city. We are very happy to have this company join our growing list of sponsors.
Acme Sport and Promotion has been our partner for a number of years for uniforms, water bottles, t shirts and our other clothing items. George helps us with design, and has always been flexible to help meet our request dates for material. Those requests have been much more frequent this season!
The Trophy House has been our partner for trophies for many years, and this year they were extremely helpful with assistance on our lapel pins, and on the design of the custom resin trophies that will be presented at the end of the year.
Add in the annual school board support, the banquet support from Pepsi and Grant’s No Frills, the businesses and private individuals that donate prizes for our golf tournament, and the many individuals that make donations to our league that prefer to do it with anonymity, and you can see that we have plenty to be thankful for!
